From Empty Walls to Open Books

Our First Cornerstone Project

In a region home to over 150,000 people, there was not a single public library. For children in Sendafa-Beke, the dream of borrowing a book was just that a dream. For our founder, Kass Kebede, this was a reality he knew from his own childhood...

In 2023, the mayor and local leaders showed real leadership handing us the keys to a long-abandoned building. Although it was rundown, our supporters raised $5,000 and turned crumbling walls into a bright, safe space ready to become Sendafa-Beke’s first public library.

From an Empty Building to a Beacon of Hope

In 2022, the Mayor of Sendafa-Beke generously gave us an unused building, presenting a unique opportunity to create the town's first-ever public library. With the support of our donors, we immediately began the work of transforming this empty space into a vibrant center for learning and discovery.

In 2023, the mayor and local leaders showed real leadership. After several visits and explanations, they gave us a building. They believed in our mission to put kids in the hands of kids.

Building a picture and the Mayor of Sendafa-Beke side by side.  Although the building was rundown, our supporters stepped up to the challenge. We raised $5,000.  See for yourself. Your support made renovations possible. We transformed the broken walls into a space eager to become a hub for learning.

Project Status:

  • Funds Raised: $5,000 (Phase 1 renovation complete!)

  • Phase 1: Initial renovation complete.

  • Goal: $31,000 to stock shelves, install computers & open doors—December 2025

Join Our Cause

We are dreamers who believe every child deserves a book in hand and a screen to the world. Your skills, time, and voice can help us finish the final chapters of this story.

Take the Next Step to Become a Donor

$26,000 still needed to fill the shelves, wire the internet, and unlock the doors for 21,000 kids. Be the reason Sendafa-Beke reads.
